The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, released the following declaration:
«The International Volunteer Day proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly is a recognition of the great ethical and social value of the daily work of millions of persons who, in every corner of the Planet, devote their time, passion and talent, bearing witness to their solidarity, strengthening community ties, improving the world in which we all live.
Voluntary work is a lofty expression of humaneness. The work donated by volunteers represents a priceless treasure that tackles problems and disseminates hope and trust, enriching the social model.
The United Nations have opportunely indicated the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are ambitious but achievable. The will of the people must be compounded with the will of States, institutions and other international organisations. Voluntary work - in the diversity and liberty of its expressions - can be a multiplier and catalyst of individual energies in favouring a growingly equitable and inclusive world. »
