Communiqué
The President of the Italian Republic received Prime Minister Matteo Renzi at the Quirinale Palace this evening.
The Prime Minister, following the results of the constitutional referendum which was held yesterday, informed the President that he did not deem it possible for his Cabinet to stay in office and expressed his intention to extend his resignation.
The President of the Republic, in light of the need to complete the parliamentary process for the approval of the country's budget law and to prevent the risk of an interim government, asked the prime minister to postpone his resignation until the budget law is approved.
