Message from the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, on the occasion of the Independence Day

The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has sent the following message to the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden:

«The recurrence of the 247th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence offers me the opportunity to convey to you, Mr. President, the most sincere wishes of the Italian Republic, which I have the pleasure to extend to all your fellow citizens.

The deep ties of friendship between our Countries, rooted in the shared values of freedom, democracy, and human rights, are cemented by the presence in the United States of a large and industrious community of Italian origin. This bond is nourished by constant and productive exchanges in every sector of mutual interest.

Washington and Rome are united in the shared commitment to strengthening the transatlantic bond, which continues to represent the most solid anchor for international peace and security, as well as the fundamental prerequisite for effectively addressing the most pressing challenges of our time. Our firmness and unity of purpose in the face of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine - and its dramatic consequences - have once again demonstrated the enduring vitality of this bond.

In an international context characterized by several challenges, we work jointly within NATO, the G7, and the most prominent international organizations, to defend the rule-based international order and the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations. I am therefore confident that the United States and Italy will continue along the path of an increasingly multifaceted and deep collaboration in favor of international peace, security and prosperity.

Under these auspices, I avail myself of this opportunity to renew to you and to our friend, the American people, my most heartfelt wishes of well-being».
