The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has sent the following message to the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden:
“The recurrence of the Independence Day affords me the welcome opportunity to convey to you, Mr President, and to our friend, the American people, the most cordial congratulations on behalf of the Italian Republic, to which I join my own personal best wishes for a prosperous future.
A few months ago, the 160th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations allowed us to reflect on the origins of the exceptional relationship that binds the United States and Italy, which are joined by a friendship that has ancient roots and, at the same time, is confidently projected into the future. Underlying this - in addition to the extensive and hard - working community of Italian origin in your country - is the essential, shared heritage of ideals which distinguishes our free, democratic societies, rendering them more dynamic and open to the contibution of citizens with different cultures.
At this time of unprecedented global challenges that we can only overcome together, the strength of the partnership between Washington and Rome is more important than ever. I am confident that it will enable our countries to renew their closeness and increase the trust is at the base of our shared action for security, an international order founded on rules, the protection of human rights, and a truly sustainable global development.
The enduring vitality of transatlantic relations, reinvigorated by your recent visit in Europe, deserves to be constantly furthered and sustaneid. Italy is firmly convinced of this, fully aware that the United States and the European Union are called upon to work increasingly closer in many areas of common interest.
In renewing my most sincere wishes of well-being for you, your family and for all the citizens of the United States of America, I would like to extend - following the collapse of Champlain Towers South Condo - the sincere condolences and solidarity of all the Italian people.”
