Message of President Mattarella on the terrorist attacks in Paris

Press Release

The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, sent the following message to the President of the French Republic, François Hollande:

«I am following, with growing apprehension and great grief, the developments of the barbarian terrorist attacks still under way in Paris. The horror that is pervading the French capital and the entire Country is shocking and bewildering.
Only a few months after the tragedy of January 7, terrorism has once again opened a deep wound in the heart of France, of liberty and democracy.
In these dark hours, Italy and all Italian citizens express their affection and sympathy to all the families of the victims, the large number of people injured and to all our friends, the people of France, who have once again suffered terrorism's blind and murderous fury.
Mr President, permit me to assure you Italy's compact support in vanquishing the scourge of terrorism, in fighting a battle of civility against the obscurantist fury and in defending the values of democracy, liberty and tolerance on which all of Europe, today torn by a criminal act without precedents, was founded and has developed».
