The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has sent His Majesty Frederik X, King of Denmark, the following message:
«Following the proclamation as King of Denmark, I welcome the opportunity to convey to Your Majesty, on behalf of the Italian Republic and my own, the warmest wishes for a long and prosperous reign serving the Danish people, to whom Queen Emerita Margrethe has devoted her best energies with exemplary dedication for over fifty years.
The bonds of friendship that unite Copenhagen and Rome have ancient roots, yet they also look to the future. They constantly develop within the framework of our common European institutions and of a committed and coherent cooperation in upholding the values of freedom, democracy and rule of law, within the spheres of the Atlantic Alliance and of the United Nations.
It is with this spirit, favourably recalling our meeting at the Quirinal Palace, that I wish to renew to Your Majesty my most sincere congratulations, while also extending my warmestwishes of wellbeing to Queen Mary, the Royal Family and the friendly Danish people».
