The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has issued the following statement:
«The attack on Donald Trump is deeply alarming and is a cause of great indignation. The violence that is again being witnessed on the political stage is a disconcerting symptom of the deterioration of the social fabric and of the dangerous rejection of debate, dialogue and respect for democratic life.
I wish Donald Trump and those injured a speedy recovery and I express my condolences for the citizen killed in this intolerable act of hatred that undermines freedom. The United States, a great democracy, will surely respond effectively and vigorously to all forms and idea of violence».
