The XVI meeting of the Heads of State of the "Arraiolos Group", also known as "United for Europe", will be held in Italy on September 15.
The two work sessions, one held in the morning and the other in the afternoon, will take place at the Quirinale, seat of the Presidency of the Italian Republic.
The "United for Europe" Group or "Arraiolos Group" - which brings together the Heads of State of Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Croatia, Latvia, Hungary, Malta, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia and Finland - is named after a locality in the Portuguese hinterland where, on October 18, 2003, the Heads of State of Finland, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Portugal and Hungary met informally, at the invitation of the then Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio, to discuss current complex European issues. The heterogeneity of a format that brings together countries that are extremely diverse in terms of size, economic situation and geographical location was so well-received that, over the years, the group has gradually expanded to its current size.
Italy has participated in the meetings since 2006, when they were organized in Dresden, and welcomed the Heads of State of the Arraiolos Group in Naples in June 2009.
